SECOND EUROPEAN FASB-SEC FINANCIAL REPORTING CONFERENCE

The full support of the SEC staff was apparent at the second European FASB-SEC Financial Reporting Conference, held March 2324 in Frankfurt, Germany. SEC Chair Arthur Levitt joined FASB Chair Edmund Jenkins and German Accounting Standards Committee Chair Hans Haverman as key speakers on the theme of "financial reporting and the global capital markets." SEC Chief Accountant Lynn Turner participated in a panel discussion on "financial reporting issues critical to European preparers adopting U.S. GAAP," and Graig Olinger, deputy chief accountant of the Division of Corporate Finance, spoke on SEC filing procedures.

The conference's closing plenary session featured David Tweedie, former chair of the U.K. standards-setting board, Jenkins, Haverman, and IASC Chair Stig Enevoldsen on "the future of international accounting standards setting." *
